Rental Guide
The problem with searching for rentals on Oahu is there is no single source of information that all property managers use. About two-thirds of the phone calls we receive from prospective tenants result from advertisements we have placed in craigslist. The amount of information and pictures are far more extensive than what is available from short advertisements in the two newspapers. Yet, many property managers do not use this valuable resource. Rentals Illustrated provides very easy to use information with pictures, but it is not as current as the two newspapers, as the booklets are printed every other week. The Honolulu Advertiser (morning newspaper) has a much larger classified section for available rentals than the Honolulu Star Bulletin, but it is more expensive to use. Some property managers only advertise in the Honolulu Advertiser; however, others may only use the Honolulu Star Bulletin. The Honolulu Board of Realtors rental website is another good site.
If I were searching in advance of arrival for rental information, I would concentrate on the search features in both craigslist and The Honolulu Advertiser. If I were here and searching for a rental, I would also check the Star Bulletin daily as well as the current issue of Rentals Illustrated.
Craigslist – This provides photographs of most rentals along with extensive details. Some of the listings will include a map.
Rentals Illustrated – This bi-weekly publication contains photographs and other information on available rentals. The problem is that it is not as current as craigslist or the Honolulu Advertiser.
The Honolulu Advertiser & Star Bulletin – These two papers service the entire Island of Oahu and rentals can be found in their Classified section.
Board of Realtors – The Honolulu Board of Realtors website lists some of the rentals that are available.
